Cheap Hotels in Bruges City Center: €50 – €150 (per night)
Bruges is one of those cities that makes budget travelers nervous before they arrive. All those canal-side restaurants, horse-drawn carriages, and UNESCO-listed streets — it looks expensive. But when I visited, I was genuinely surprised at how much variety there is in the €50–€150 range, especially if you book a few months in advance and avoid the peak summer period.
This guide covers the budget and mid-range hotels I’d actually recommend in the Historic Centre — the area within walking distance of the main sights. I’ve organized them so you can immediately find what fits your travel style, not just your budget.
Quick note: I haven’t personally stayed at every hotel on this list. Where I have, you’ll find a first-person account. The rest are shortlisted based on location, review scores, and honest research — I’ll tell you clearly which is which.
Every hotel in this guide sits inside or on the edge of the Historic Centre — meaning you can walk to the Belfry, Market Square, or the canals in under 15 minutes. I set a minimum review score of 8.0 on Booking.com and included only properties priced between €50 and €150 per night during “shoulder season” (the travel period between peak and off-peak seasons).
I excluded hotels that consistently appeared in low-star reviews for noise, poor maintenance, or misleading photos. I also cut a few well-located properties that regularly spike well above the price range in high season — the prices listed here are what you can realistically expect to pay outside of July–August.
Star ratings vary: this list includes 2-star to 4-star properties, because in Bruges, the stars don’t always track with the actual experience.

Where to Stay in Bruges: Choosing the Right Area
The Historic Centre is compact — you can walk from one end to the other in about 25 minutes. But where you base yourself still makes a difference.
Around Market Square (Markt) is the most central you can get. Everything is on your doorstep, but it’s also the noisiest area, especially on weekend evenings when the restaurants and bars around the square run late. If you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the square. Best for: first-timers, short stays, anyone prioritizing convenience over quiet.
The southern end of the centre — around Sint-Salvatorskathedraal, Church of Our Lady, and Minnewater — feels noticeably calmer. Streets are prettier, there are fewer tourist groups wandering past at 9pm, and prices tend to be marginally lower. Best for: couples, return visitors, anyone who wants a quieter base.
Near ‘t Zand square (western edge of the centre) is where you’ll find the train station at around 850m–950m — not a long walk, but a useful one if you’re arriving or departing by rail. A few good-value hotels cluster here. Best for: budget travelers and anyone connecting through Bruges by train.
One honest trade-off to know: Bruges is extremely popular. Even the “quiet” areas have tourist groups walking past during the day. If you want genuine quiet, the southern edge near Minnewater is your best bet.
